    Self Description

In a world of coaching specialists, I am a passionate generalist.  I immensely enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and who come to coaching with varied goals.  I find that diversity among my clients keeps me focused on their agenda, making me a better coach.

    Goals

If you work with me, I will help you gain clarity about what you want.  I will help you overcome beliefs that stand in the way.  And I will support you in taking the action that helps you attain your dreams.

    Qualities & Strengths

I have a gift for deep listening.  I will truly hear you.  I will ask you questions that provoke exploration and open possibilities.  I develop trust because I earn it.  I will make helpful suggestions.

I will challenge you, but always in a way that supports, uplifts, and helps move you toward what you want most.  I use my intuition extensively.  I will help you achieve breakthroughs that will transform your personal or professional life.

    Background

In addition to being a coach, I am seasoned writer, editor, and consultant with 17 years of experience in the nonprofit sector.

I have always followed my heart and taken personal and professional risks.  I have been a successful freelance writer. I have held senior-level editorial positions at nonprofit organizations. Since 2001 I have run my own business as a communications and management consultant for nonprofits.

Throughout my career, I have always married my passions and values with professionally and financially rewarding work.  I live the principles of belief in oneself and limitless possibilities that I bring to the coaching relationship.

I am currently working toward my Associate Certified Coach credential (fall 2008).

    Testimonials

"When I came to coaching, I wanted to take my art to the next level.  What I soon discovered is that I wanted to make it my full-time career.  Working with Ray has helped me to see what is possible and take the necessary steps to make it happen.

It's easy to work with Ray.  He always asks the right questions—the ones I'm afraid to ask myself.  Through his help I have achieved all of my short-term goals, and my long-term vision has never been so clear.  Ray has not only challenged me with the hard questions, but more importantly, I have been able to use the answers and move forward."

    --Craig Colorusso, Installation Artist

I was somewhat in a crisis mode when I started with Ray, needing to find not only a new career path, but an authentic one—not an easy goal given my nature and unconventional skill sets. Ray has taken me through a rather astonishing series of developments, enabling me to identify potentials, build confidence, and generate actions that are delivering tangible results. What is more impressive than his abilities as a coach is that he has that rare quality— he’s truly 'gifted' with his work.

    -- Robert Owings

"With Ray's help I finally jump-started the weight loss business that I was sitting on for some time.  Ray asked me the tough but caring questions that forced me to look at what was stopping me: my own fears about what other people thought.  When he reminded me of my values, and who I really was...suddenly what other people thought didn't matter anymore."

    --Al Pittampalli

"Working with Ray as a leadership coach has provided me with an invaluable forum in which to explore my own thoughts and feelings about our organization's challenges - before I'm ready to speak with the staff or board. It is often said that being an executive director is the loneliest job. Having Ray as a coach has made an incalculable difference. His patience, insight, and support have helped me to gain clarity and to access my own inner wisdom. As a result, I have taken my young nonprofit organization to unprecedented heights of success."
